Answer consists of two parts. Left Hand Side (LHS) and Right Hand Side (RHS).

LHS | RHS

(78563 – 1) = 78562 | 99999 – 78562 = 21437

Answer 7856221437

To get LHS of the answer, subtract one from the multiplicand, 78563

To get RHS of the answer, subtract each of the digits of 78562 from 9, (9 – 7 = 2, 9 – 8 = 1, 9 – 5 = 4, 9 – 6 = 3 and 9 – 2 = 7)

To get the final answer combine numbers in LHS (78562) and RHS (21437).

The above formula is a special case that works to multiply any number by 9’s.



To find square of 106 =?

Find the difference between nearest base number (100) and given number, excess = 106 – 100 = 6

The answer consist of 2 parts

LHS | RHS

106 + 6 | 6x6

112 | 36

Square of 106 (106^2) = 11236

106 is near to base number 100, which has 2 zeroes.

RHS of the answer must have 2 digits in the answer

LHS of the answer: Add excess (6) to the given number (106)

RHS of the answer: Square of excess 6x6 = 36
